Pastor Tomy Jordan is the Co-Lead for YDH's Urban Ministry Advocacy Project.
Following is the featured Destiny Spotlight interview provided in our August 2021 newsletter.
Pastor Tomy Jordan originates from New Jersey, but now resides in Charlotte, NC. He is a fourth generation preacher with the mind of a servant who understood he was to serve in this office in truth.
Being a Pastor brings me so much satisfaction. I enjoy serving and teaching the congregation in church as well as in social settings. I also sing, record, compose music and play nine musical instruments. People would be surprised to know I am shy and reserved. I am very much the introvert who enjoys being in the background. I was always different, and I knew from the age of 9 that this was my calling. I had temperance, loved the poor, and I loved being in the presence of God and His community. Our world needs more love and respect for God’s people and their differences. Imagine the transformation when we see everyone as our family. God built the church to be a family. An unhealthy church family leads to a poor gospel, but a healthy, vital church family leads to a rich, preached gospel filled with love.
I grew up in Newark NJ where we didn’t have much. We were impoverished, but we always shared what we had. Life happens to us all, but you have to maintain hope and your focus. We were taught we had each other and to rely on The Word of God for comfort. We were rich with love and community. I am now a chef by trade, and I love cooking fine foods. I also love reading, good coffee, and cleaning. As a father and husband, I enjoy my family. As a pastor, patience and the ability to love others unconditionally have become my strongest characteristics.
Outside of my family members, Nathaniel Simmons was my mentor. He founded the Sounds of Praise Movement, which was birthed out of Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of the Americas. I teach that destiny is that marked place in our lives, not just a path. Destiny is what we all have to go through. It is an exact location locked into God’s will. Remember, everything different isn’t always demonic. Many of the detours on our paths are results of our poor decision-making. Be encouraged, our end is not the end of life; ours is everlasting.
Thank God, the world still has many beautiful opportunities available for everyone. Because the Lord would have none to perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16, 2 Peter 3:9). We all have a plethora of opportunities at our fingertips
